CRAZY DAYS
I WOKE THIS MORNING TO BE TOLD MY GOOD FRIEND TIM KREKEL PASSED AWAY. TIM AND I WROTE MANY SONGS TOGETHER INCLUDING “BEST THING I NEVER HAD”. I WAS HONORED TO PLAY IN A BAND WITH HIM CALLED “THE LINDY’S” WITH JOEY SPAMPINATO (NRBQ) AND JACK IRWIN AND I LOVED PLAYING SONGWRITER NITES WITH HIM. I WOULD SIT ACROSS FROM HIM AT THE BLUEBIRD AND JUST BE MESMERIZED BY HIS MUSICALITY. HE WAS A BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEING INSIDE AND OUT AS WELL AS AN AMAZING SINGER, GUITARIST AND WRITER. MAN HE WAS A GOOD ONE, THE KIND YOU CAN NEVER REPLACE. GOD BLESS YOU TIM MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO YOUR FAMILY. RIP BROTHER.

Hey,
Sorry to hear about the passsing of Tim.
I've finally sat down and signed up into blogs so this comment is late.
"Best thing I never had" song #4 on Tom's Bang and Roll CD.
One of my favorite songs to listen to when trying to keep on keepin' on. To me the song is blues with a keep on rockin' notion and some country sounding guitar licks to keep you at that walkin' down the country road mind set thinking about the best thing you never had.
Thanks Tim, will miss you though I never knew you personally.
Safe return home.
Hey Tom,
I remember seeing Tim in the 80s (with his band the Sluggers) at a club in Greensboro NC opening for the Amazing Rhythm Aces. I had no idea who he was at the time, but remember being impressed by some of his tunes. Lost track of him for a while, but later heard “Happy Town” and was hooked. A true talent that will certainly be missed here in NC. RIP Tim – I hope his son Jason is doing well.
Prior to visiting your website I was unaware that NRBQ had done one of your tunes. I’m not surprised, though – I always thought that “Best Thing I Never Had” sounded like the great lost NRBQ track, like one of those incredible yearning Big Al tunes. Great stuff……..
